// FAQS //
Questions, answered.
What couples most often ask us before they apply. If your question is not here, we would love to hear it on your discovery call or through our contact page.
Is this right for us?
Who is the retreat for?
The Restore Immersion is for couples who love each other, and have forgotten how to reach each other. It is built for couples at a genuine crossroads, not for light maintenance, and not for casual curiosity.
Is this therapy?
No. We are not psychotherapists, and we are clear about that. The Connected Human is a coaching and immersive practice integrating the Enneagram, emotional intelligence and somatic work.
If you are in active psychotherapy, we welcome you, and encourage you to bring your therapist into the conversation before applying. If you are looking specifically for clinical therapy, we will happily refer you to practitioners we trust.
When is the retreat not the right fit?
If one of you is currently in a mental health crisis, struggling with active addiction, or managing unmedicated significant trauma, the retreat is unlikely to be the right room. We will discuss this openly on your discovery call.
If there is current domestic abuse, controlling behaviour, or coercive control in the relationship, couples work of any kind is contraindicated. We refer to Women's Aid, Men's Advice Line, and specialist support services.
One of us is less sure than the other. Should we still apply?
Both partners apply together, and every retreat begins with a private thirty-minute discovery call with Elizabeth and Sean. That call is the place to talk it through honestly, including any doubts either of you has.
Who can come, and do we need to be married?
You do not need to be married. Everyone is welcome to apply. The Restore Immersion draws on our work with male and female couples, and the programme has been shaped around the dynamics we see in those relationships. Whoever you are, we will talk through whether it is the right fit for you both on your discovery call.
Can you promise it will work?
No. We have never met a practitioner who offers a guarantee responsibly. What we can promise is depth, care, and a structure that helps couples see themselves and each other differently, whatever they ultimately decide to do with that insight.
The retreat
How long is it, and how many couples come?
Three days and three nights, with a small, carefully selected group of couples. We keep each immersion small so every couple receives the depth of attention they came for.
Will we have to share personal things in front of the other couples?
No. There is no pressure to share, and no spotlight. The group sessions are gentle and guided, and you choose what you say. The deepest work happens between the two of you: in the couples intensive, Elizabeth and Sean guide each couple through structured conversations, and the Restore Conversation on day three is a held conversation between you and your partner.
Who leads the sessions, and what approach do you use?
Every session is led by Elizabeth and Sean personally. Each has spent more than two decades delivering presentations, workshops, group sessions and coaching for couples and individuals, individually and together. The work brings together the Enneagram as a map of self and other, emotional intelligence, somatic practice, the work of the Gottman Institute, and Emotionally Focused Conversations.
Is what we say kept private?
Yes. Everything spoken at The Connected Human retreat stays there. Our confidentiality charter is absolute, and it is one of the reasons couples can finally tell the truth.
What happens after the retreat?
You leave with a written 90-day reconnection plan co-written with us, The Connected Human journal, and an ongoing line of contact with us for questions that arise during integration. One 60-minute follow-up session is included at day 90, along with twelve months of The Connected Human community access.
Practicalities
Where is the retreat held?
In exclusive locations in the UK and around the world, each chosen for privacy, with nature as the backdrop. We share the venue and full address with accepted couples once their place is confirmed, as we keep each location private to our guests.
What is the accommodation like?
Your own quiet, considered room for three nights, chosen for deep rest. Comfortable, safe, quiet. Every venue is selected with privacy and rest in mind, and we share the details with you once your place is confirmed.
What about food, dietary needs and alcohol?
Meals are farm-to-table, seasonal and largely sourced locally. All dietary requirements are accommodated. A fireside glass of wine is optional.
Can we use our phones, and what should we bring?
We will go through this with you on your discovery call.
Are the venues accessible?
Venues vary from retreat to retreat, so please tell us about any access needs when you apply, and we will go through them with you on your discovery call.
