THE APPROACH
We don't rehearse
the argument.
We dismantle the pattern.
The method beneath every conversation, exercise, and quiet moment of the Connected Retreat grounded in the Enneagram, emotional intelligence, and somatic practice.
// THE UNDERLYING IDEA //
Most couples work asks
the wrong question first.
"What is wrong between you?" is the question most couples expect to hear when they arrive. It is rarely the right place to begin.
The question we start with is different. Before we look at the relationship, we look at each of you individually, and specifically at your Enneagram type. The patterns that now sit between you were mostly formed long before you met. They were laid down in childhood, in early friendships, in the first places you learned what it meant to be safe, to be loved, to be enough. They are not caused by your partner, but they are triggered by them, and every triggered pattern triggers a pattern in return. This is the loop.
Understand the loop through the lens of both your types, and the argument you've had a hundred times finally starts to make sense. Understand the argument, and you have a choice you've never had before: to stay inside it, or to step outside it together.
Our method integrates three disciplines that are rarely held in one room: the Enneagram as a precise map of motivation and defence, emotional intelligence as the practical skill of being heard and of hearing, and somatic and nervous-system work as the body-level integration that makes change actually stick. We do not pretend to have invented any of them. What we have built is a sequence: a way of putting them in the right order, paced carefully, held by two practitioners who between them have spent fifty years in this work.

// THE FOUR MOVEMENTS //
From reactive
to relational.
Our method moves through four distinct movements, in the same sequence, for every couple who attends. The retreat is structured around them. The sequence matters: movement two cannot do its work without movement one, and so on.

MOVEMENT ONE
Know yourself
"You cannot communicate honestly with someone you love if you have not first met yourself honestly."
The first work of any Connected retreat is not relational. It is individual. In private typing sessions on day one, each of you sits with Elizabeth or Sean and begins mapping your Enneagram type, the deep motivational pattern that shapes your reactions, your defences, and the particular way you protect yourself when things feel unsafe.
The Enneagram is not a personality quiz. It is a precise, rigorous framework that names the nine fundamental patterns of human motivation: what you are moving toward, what you are moving away from, and why. In the hands of a certified practitioner, it does something almost nothing else can do: it shows you, without shame, the architecture of your own unconscious behaviour. The things you do that you do not know you are doing. The strategies that once kept you safe, and are now quietly running your relationship.
Naming the pattern without shame is the foundation of everything that follows.

MOVEMENT TWO
See each other
"The person you have been arguing with for years is not the person you think they are. You have been arguing with a version of them that exists only in your defensive response."
Once each of you has met your own type, something quietly extraordinary happens. You walk back into the same room, and your partner looks different. Not because they have changed, but because you are no longer seeing them through the fog of your own pattern.
Movement two is the held conversation in which each of you describes, out loud and to the other, what you have just discovered. Not as an accusation. Not as a confession. As a simple, vulnerable introduction: here is what I carry, here is the type I move through the world as, and here is how it shows up as the person you live with.
Most couples have never heard this from each other. Ever. When the nine Enneagram types are used as a shared language, partners stop taking each other's behaviour personally, and start seeing the pattern underneath. It is the movement couples most often describe as "the moment something shifted."

MOVEMENT THREE
Interrupt the loop
"Insight without practice is just a well-dressed version of knowing. The loop only breaks when you catch it, in real time, together."
By day two, most couples have had their insight. Some of them have cried. Some have laughed. Most have sat very quietly. But insight, on its own, will not survive the return to Tuesday evening.
Movement three is where we practise. Deliberately, slowly, and with skilled facilitation, we walk you into the exact kind of conversation that usually triggers the loop, and we interrupt it, together, in the room. Not once. Many times. Until your nervous system begins to know, beneath the thinking layer, that a different response is available.
This is where Elizabeth's somatic and nervous-system work becomes central. Insight lives in the mind. But the loop lives in the body. Until the body is involved through breath, posture, felt sense and regulation, the change does not hold. Drawing on her background in applied functional neurology, P-DTR, and two decades of somatic practice, Elizabeth guides the body-level work that allows the new response to take root.

MOVEMENT FOUR
Restore connection
"The end of the retreat is not the end of the work. It is the beginning of a different kind of work: the kind two people do, together, because they have decided to."
Day three is when we build the architecture of the next chapter. What does connection look like for you, specifically, given what you now know about your two types? What are the rituals, the weekly conversations, the repair moves, the non-negotiables that will keep you finding each other when life pulls you apart again?
You leave with a personalised 90-day reconnection plan, co-written with us, built from what we saw in your specific dynamic. You also leave with one included follow-up session at day 90, and access to the Connected alumni community, a private circle of couples who have walked this path and are still walking it, together.
This is not the ending. It is the beginning of you being a couple who knows how to come home to each other on purpose.

Personalised 90-day reconnection plan for every couple

"We are not taught how to be partners.
We are taught how to find one.
Everything after that, we are expected to improvise."
// THE FOUR MOVEMENTS //
// OUR INFLUENCES //
Rigorous where it matters.
Connected draws on three disciplines we have each studied for decades. We are not a single-method practice. We are integrators, and we are transparent about the lineages of the work we hold.
i
The Enneagram
The nine-point map of human motivation, taught by both of us. A precise framework for self-knowledge and relational understanding, used by certified practitioners worldwide.
ii
Emotional intelligence
Drawn from Sean's thirty years in EQ coaching and leadership development. The skill of understanding what you feel, what your partner feels, and how to bridge the gap with clarity.
iii
Somatic & functional neurology
Drawn from Elizabeth's twenty-plus years in movement and nervous-system work, including advanced certification in P-DTR and extensive training with Z-Health and the Gray Institute.
iv
Behavioural & NLP practice
Sean is a Certified Behavioural Profiler and NLP Practitioner. Tools we use sparingly and precisely, where they serve the couple, never as the main event.
// HONEST LIMITS //
What this is not.
In the interest of being useful rather than persuasive, here is what our work does not do.
It is not clinical therapy. We are not psychotherapists, and we are clear about that. Connected is a coaching and immersive practice integrating the Enneagram, EQ and somatic work. If you are in active psychotherapy, we welcome you, and encourage you to bring your therapist into the conversation before applying. If you are looking specifically for clinical therapy, we will happily refer you to practitioners we trust.
It is not a guarantee. We have never met a practitioner who offers one responsibly. What we can promise is depth, care, and a structure that has helped every couple we have worked with to see themselves and each other differently, whatever they ultimately decide to do with that insight.
It is not a replacement for individual therapy for acute mental health concerns. If one of you is currently in a mental health crisis, struggling with active addiction, or managing unmedicated significant trauma, the retreat is unlikely to be the right room. We will discuss this openly on the application call.
It is not suitable in situations of abuse. If there is current domestic abuse, controlling behaviour, or coercive control in the relationship, couples work of any kind is contraindicated. We refer to Women's Aid, Men's Advice Line, and specialist support services.
It is not a quick fix. We deliver a concentrated piece of work, but integration happens over months, not days. The 90-day plan exists precisely because the retreat is the beginning, not the end.
This is the work
we built our lives around.
If something here resonates, if the question "is this us?" has been sitting in your chest as you read, we would love to meet you. Every retreat begins with a conversation, not a form.
